Today we chat with Marie Harris, Ashtanga Yoga Instructor and a student of Yoga for almost 12 years, about the health benefits of Yoga.
Marie is an amazing and inspiring individual. I had the great pleasure of meeting Marie and her wonderfully sweet partner Simon (both from the UK), at Jay and my friends, Brad and Pia’s wedding in South Africa in December of 2012 – what a fun night that was!
We immediately hit it off and all had so much in common – especially our passion for health and wellness, clean eating and clean living.
One of the most amazing moments for me, which gave me a glimpse into the depth and breadth of Marie’s devotion to her practice and the wellbeing of her body was the first time I witnessed her doing her Yoga practice. Much of the to-be Wedding Party were all at a Music Festival together in the middle of the bush in South Africa, as a lead up to Brad and Pia’s nuptials. On the first morning after staying overnight, there she was, next to her tent, quietly and intently doing her Yoga practice. That music was blasting away too by the way, but Marie was present… doing what she loves and knows to be good for her body. I was blown away. I was inspired.
When find what works for us, and embark on our own personal journey of health and wellness, I believe we can all aspire be this in-tune with our body and our body’s needs – whatever that may look like to you. It was and still is a great lesson I try always to remember.
